New Year's resolutions are hard to keep
Sound great on the 31st
Then we skip a beat
Here are some resolutions we'd like to see
For our pals on Capital Hill
Who are hooked on tea!
A vote on anything would be nice
No blocking, no filibustering
Or putting issues on ice
Final passage on the Violence Against Women Act would be great!
Additional consumer protections for veterans would ice the cake!
And how about those bills to protect children from child abuse?
That bill to improve Native American
educational opportunities would be of great use!
Those bills to protect small businesses are ready to go...
And reauthorizing the ban on assault weapons would steal the show!
Your views on fair taxation are awfully stiff
But it sure beats throwing us off the cliff!
So this year handle those resolutions with care
The greater good of the people is why you are there!
