You have got to watch the President’s
Conference on Midterm Election Results linked below because if you listened to commentators across all of the major cable news networks, you would think that you and they watched two completely different broadcasts!
The President opened the Conference
acknowledging Democratic midterm losses in a matter of fact manner – no judgments,
no lamentations:
Obviously,
Republicans had a good night. And they deserve credit for running good
campaigns.
The President, then. outlined the
state of the nation from his coming into office in the midst of a grave
recession to the present:
This country has made real
progress since the crisis six years ago. The fact is, more Americans are
working. Unemployment has come down. More Americans have health insurance.
Manufacturing has grown. Our deficits have shrunk. Our dependence on foreign oil
is down, as are gas prices. Our graduation rates are up. Our businesses aren’t
just creating jobs at the fastest pace since the 1990s. Our economy is
outpacing most of the world.
President Obama, also, acknowledged
that his "policies" were not,
properly, communicated to the American people and, openly, admitted that the “miscommunication”
of his policies probably affected the fact that only 1/3 of registered voters turned out to vote and the remaining 2/3’s stayed home!
In responding to numerous questions regarding the possibility of executive actions and immigration reform, the President pointed out that over the past two years, he reached out to Republican lawmakers(?) for input on immigration reform. Senate lawmakers came up with a bi-partisan solution, but when it went to the House, Speaker Boehner couldn't move Republicans to deliver.
The President reconfirmed that he made a commitment to the American people on a comprehensive immigration stance that would strengthen US borders, save government money, and outline a reasonable, cost effective path to citizenship.
He stated that if Republican lawmakers aren't willing to follow on that commitment, he would do so via executive actions emphasizing that congressional legislation would over rule said executive actions. He concluded that the means of executing comprehensive immigration reform via executive action or legislation lies in the hands of Congress.
The portion of the President’s
question and answer segment that struck me the most was the genuine
optimism he exhibited on handling the remainder of his term as someone other than a “lame duck”!
Folks are just good. They’re smart
and they’re hard working…
…people in America were restless and
impatient and want to get things done. And even when things are going good,
we want them to do better. And that’s why this is the greatest country on earth.
…So, I plan on spending every moment
of the next two-plus years doing my job the best I can to keep this country
safe and to make sure that more Americans share in its prosperity
Overall, President Obama was confident and poised throughout the event even when correspondents like Ed Henry (FOX) were, typically, disrespectful interrupting the President throughout the response!
After viewing the Conference, I was curious to find out how pundits from the major cable news networks (CNN, FOX, MSNBC) viewed the President's Conference. So I switched back and forth, and became thoroughly confused!
I, already knew that FOX would make up their own version of the Post Midterm Conference and find nothing noteworthy in the President's remarks, but quite a few of the pundits from the other cable news networks reacted the same.
Chris
Matthews (MSNBC) was so visibly upset, I thought he was going to bust a gut addressing the
President of the United States as that guy!
Other pundits' comments appear below:
The
President doesn’t care
The
President definitely didn’t want to be there
The
President has tuned out
The President didn't take any responsibility for the election results
The President didn't take any responsibility for the election results
The
President is disengaged
The
President needs to start to reach out to Republicans
The last comment was the wackiest one of all!
Here’s why:
Not one pundit mentioned that Tea Partied Republican lawmaker(s) met to orchestrate their devilish plan to "break Obama“ the very night of his first inauguration!
Not
one pundit mentioned that during the first
week of taking Office, the President invited Tea Partied Republican
lawmakers(?) to meet and discuss how they could work together and Tea Partied Republicans, rudely, declined the
President’s invitation and pushed it back!
Not
one pundit mentioned how Tea Partied
Republican lawmakers(?) actually walked out on the President in the midst of deliberations for compromise on more than one occasion!
And don’t get me started on Tea
Partied Republican lawmakers’(?) exclamations including - but not limited to - You lie! President Obama is a tar baby!, and Mitch McConnell's My only priority is to make Obama a onetime
President! (All of the above references are taken from
previous spin Sources.)
At that point, I began to experience a Chris Matthews Moment and tuned them out!
Watch the video, and let us know what you think!
