Beyond Netanyahu’s, Republicans’ and FOXified pundits’ Sour Grapes of Wrath!

President Obama, recently, announced the U.S. and the world’s major powers' framework for curtailing nuclear proliferation in Iran and  radical right wingers went full blown Sour Grapes of Wrath!

Netanyahu, Republican congressional war lords, Republican presidential wannabes and FOXified pundits are having a field day misrepresenting the framework. They are carelessly disrespecting America's international negotiation allies - the United Kingdom, France, Germany, Russia, China, the European Union and its partners. They are presenting false claims that the framework presents a threat to America's national security.  They are stating factually illiterate claims that the framework, releases Iran from all international sanctions. They are foolishly mocking President Obama for pushing diplomacy over reckless and costly threats of war!

Here are the facts.

The Islamic Republic of Iran was advancing its nuclear program for decades. By the time President Obama took office, Iran was operating and concealing thousands of centrifuges which can produce materials for a nuclear bomb.

When President Obama took office he resolved to address the issue diplomatically if and only if Iran came to the negotiating table. When that didn’t happen, the U.S. and other international world powers imposed strict economic sanctions which eliminated Iran’s stockpile of nuclear materials; increased inspections of Iran’s nuclear program and – most importantly – brought Iran to the negotiation table!

After months of tough negotiations aimed at diplomacy rather than war, an internationally agreed upon framework for a deal was finally realized.

The framework looks like this:

  • Iran will not be able to pursue a bomb using plutonium.
  • Iran’s path to a bomb using enriched uranium will be shut down
  • Iran agreed that it will not stockpile the materials need to build a weapon
  • International inspectors will have unprecedented access not only to Iranian nuclear facilities, but to the entire supply chain that supports Iran’s nuclear program
  • Iran will face more inspections than any other country in the world
  • There will be strict limits on Iran’s program for a decade.
  • As a member of the Nuclear Non-Proliferation Treaty, Iran will never be permitted to develop a nuclear weapon.
  • In return for all of the above, the international community has agreed to provide Iran with relief from certainnot all - sanctions.  The relief from certain sanctions will be phased as Iran takes steps to adhere to the deal. If Iran violates the deal, sanctions can be snapped back into place.

Netanyahu, Republican Block Obama lawmakers, Republican war over diplomacy presidential wannabes and FOXified Obama Haters are expressing unbridled wrath  about the framework for two simple reasons.

  1. The internationally negotiated framework was led by President Obama!
  2. The framework is a validation of Obama’s lead rather than bleed foreign policy philosophy which has been mocked by Netanyahu, Republican congressional war lords and FOXified pundits throughout Obama’s presidency (See President Obama’s told-you-so moment link below.

Republican congressional war makers are planning to push Democrats towards sabotaging the negotiations through hearings aimed at tearing the negotiations down; antagonizing Iran with additional, unnecessary sanctions, and withholding funding for a nuclear agreement to go into effect.
