Republicans need to stop pinning Republican obstructionism on Obama!

Donald Trump, FOXifiers and other Republican Obama Bashers need to start telling the truth about the state of immigration reform and border security.

The only individuals blocking comprehensive advancements regarding immigration reform and border security are Republicans!

Despite Republican obstructionism, the Obama Administration provided more agents and technology deployed to secure our southern border than any time in our history.

Despite Republican obstructionism, over the past six years, the Obama Administration cut illegal border crossings by more than half.

Despite Republican obstructionism, the Obama Administration utilized executive action to address the very same immigration issues Trump and FOX are fabricating against the President,,,

Namely,
  • Building on our progress at the border with additional resources for law enforcement personnel, and
  • Taking steps to deal responsibly enforcement resources on actual threats to our security, felons, criminals, and gang members.

The President’s executive action was prompted by the fact that Republicans in Congress refused to act on immigration reform!

The executive action was blocked by a Republican Supreme Court justice in Texas based on a charge from the Texas Republican Governor.

Contrary to FOX’s, typical fabrications, the Obama Administration did not establish ‘sanctuary cities’.  As a matter of fact there is no legal definition of a ‘sanctuary city’, county or state, and what it means varies from place to place.  (See What’s a ‘sanctuary city’…link below.)

Contrary to FOX's typical fabrications, the sanctuary movement did not grow from some far fetched Obama-led, left wing, socialistic conspiracy, the movement grew out of efforts by churches in the 1980's to provide sanctuary to Central Americans fleeing violence at home amid reluctance by the federal government to grant them refugee status. It is believed that by encouraging members of immigrant communities to work with police without fear of deportation, such policies help authorities improve public safety.

Contrary to FOX's typical fabrications that cities with sanctuary status are all led by Democrats, the distribution of  Democratic-led and Republican-led jurisdictions are just about equal.

Similar to Republican-led guns everywhere, voter suppression and affordable health care denial actions, some jurisdictions that are described by that term, generally have policies or laws that limit the extent to which law enforcement and other government employees will go to assist the federal government on immigration matters.

Trump's and FOXifiers' questionable claims on illegal immigrants and crime can be verified in the politifact link below.
Trump's and FOXifiers' deliberate failure to mention positive data related to immigrants only serves to fan the flames of right wing bigotry.

According to an article entitled Why the GOP Congress Should Welcome More Immigrants (Even Illegals!):

  • Immigrant businesses employ 1 in 10 Americans
  • 18% of Fortune 500 companies were founded by immigrants, generating $1.7 trillion in revenue
  • 75% of farm workers are foreign-born
  • As consumers, immigrants pump over $2 trillion into the economy
  • Without immigrant labor, milk prices would increase by 61%
  • Immigrants on average pay $1800 more in taxes than they receive in benefits
  • 66% of illegal immigrants pay Social Security, Medicare and income taxes via payroll withholding

Yet…

House Republican leaders refuse to allow any bills on immigration to come to the floor for a vote.

In a move to sabotage the President’s immigration executive action,  House Republicans tried, unsuccessfully, to block funding for Homeland Security risking another Republican-led government shutdown!

House Republicans voted 237-190 to cancel President Obama’s executive order on immigration (See House GOP Doubles Down on Bigotry with Vote to Stop Obama’s Immigration Executive Order link below.)

15 House Republicans urged blocking funds for Obama’s immigration executive order.

Only two Native Americans serve in Congress.
Remind the remaining Republican Congressional lawmakers to acknowledge the status of their immigrant ancestry and pass comprehensive immigration reform.
