The GOP Primary Debate: What if?

The first GOP Primary Debate is coming up.  We know that questions relating to factual records rather than fluffed talking points will most likely be few and far between, but what if ….

MODERATOR:  As you know, Republican Supreme Court justices, recently, invalidated key provisions within the Voting Rights Act.

Being known as strong proponents of the Constitution particularly as it pertains to Republican-led states’ guns everywhere laws, what is your record on preserving the Constitutional right to vote?

Try not to refer to the scripts of Libertarian and Republican backed organizations that have been accused of helping to spread talking points and draft legislation to prevent low-income families, students, seniors and minorities from voting.

Also, keep in mind that a study based on statistical data from the US Election Assistance Commission, the Department of Justice and the Brennan Center for Justice reflects that out of 197 million votes cast for federal candidates between 2002 and 2005, only 40 voters were indicted for voter fraud, and only 26 of those cases, or about .00000013 percent of the votes cast, resulted in convictions or guilty pleas.

SCOTT WALKER: As Governor, I’ve raised quite a bit of money campaigning for voter suppression legislation by my state legislature.

TED CRUZ: As a US Senator I called for the repeal of a provision protecting minority voters from discrimination and I introduced federal legislation requiring voters to present “proof of citizenship” before voting.

MIKE HUCKABEE: As a well-known right wing propaganda specialist, I’ve used a variety of media outlets to suggest deflating peoples’ tires to block them from voting and I supported voted ID laws that would make voting more difficult for minorities.

LINDSEY GRAHAM: As a US Senator, I supported stricter federal voter ID laws, and I didn't hesitate to praise conservative Supreme Court justices' successful move to strike down a key portion of the Voting Rights Act.

RICK PERRY: As Governor, I was all for my Republican-led legislatures' law to institute stricter photo ID laws that low income families, students, seniors and minorities couldn't afford to meet. Unfortunately, the Department of Justice struck down our Jim Crow poll tax initiative before we could institute it.

MARCO RUBIO: As a congressional lawmaker, I’ve supported voter ID laws that would make voting more difficult, and as a state representative, I voted in favor of a bill that restricted the hours and locations for early voting,

CHRIS CHRISTIE: As Governor, I opposed same day voter registration and vetoed legislation that would have expanded opportunities for early voting.

TED CRUZ: Since I was elected to Congress, I called for the repeal of a provision protecting minority voters from discrimination.

JOHN KASICH: While I was Governor, I supported a “breathtaking bid” to suppress voting.

RICK SANTORUM: As I’ve previously stated, maybe it wasn’t bad that the founding fathers restricted the right to vote.

LINDSEY GRAHAM: As a US Senator, I’ve always supported stricter federal voter ID laws despite the fact that .00000013 percent of instances of voter fraud had nothing to do with whether or not voters presented ID's at the polls.

RAND PAUL: I always support voter protections while speaking to minority groups on the campaign trail, but I never endorsed voter protection legislation where it matters in Congress.

BOBBY JINDAL: As Governor, I’ve been sued by the NAACP for blocking reforms to discriminatory voting systems.  As a matter of fact my entire administration was forced to go to court over violating the National Voter Registration Act.  Top that!

JEB BUSH: You bet!  While I was Governor, my administration purged 12,000 eligible voters from the Florida voter rolls ahead of the 2000 presidential election resulting in the conservative-leaning Supreme Court selecting my brother to be President of the United States!

MODERATOR: Mr. Trump, You’ve been, surprisingly, silent on this issue. Do you have anything to add?

DONALD TRUMP: Where’s the birth certificate?
