Hold all Republican candidates’ feet to the fire on assault weapons at the polls in November!

UPDATE:
On Monday Republican US Senators voted to ensure that terrorists and dangerous people continue to have access to weapons of mass murder. The Republican Congress’ continued inaction on assault weapons is further proof that they could care less about OUR Constitutional “inalienable right to LIFE, liberty and the pursuit of happiness”.

WE must pressure the Republican Congress to respect that Constitutional right in the same way the NRA leadership pressures them to ignore it - by contacting them!

In addition to protecting that right at the ballot box in November, repeatedly, contact Republican congressional lawmakers(???) to demand their respect for “LIFE, liberty and the pursuit of happiness”!

Take turns with members in your social networks to contact Republicans in Congress. Make sure each member of your network makes contact at least once every one to two weeks!

If WE forget, so will they!

ORIGINAL POST:
It is so frustrating having to, once again, begin a post with an expression of healing thoughts for the victims and families of individuals slaughtered by an assault weapon.  The massacre in Orlando, Florida is, unfortunately, added to the list.

WE must do what Republican congressional lawmakers(???), Republican governors and Republican state legislators refuse to do - stop the sale of assault weapons to civilians.

How?

Vote them out in November!

Here’s why…

90% of Americans want expanded background checks
92% of gun owners support universal background checks
74% of NRA members support requiring background checks for all gun sales….

Yet…

  • House Speaker Paul Ryan and his Republican majority won’t even let a bill to ban assault weapons come to the floor of the House for a debate or vote.
  • Every Republican US Senator except one voted to let terror suspects legally buy guns.
  • Senate Republican leader, Mitch McConnell and his fellow Republican Senators voted against background checks for gun sales.
  • Republican congressional representatives blocked the Democrats’ bill to ban the sale of guns to terrorist suspects on the no fly list!
  • The Republican-led states of Arkansas, Georgia, Indiana, Idaho, Kansas, Louisiana, North Carolina, North Dakota, Oklahoma, South Carolina South Dakota and Tennessee expanded their gun carry laws in places such as churches, schools, bars, college campuses and the like.
  • The Republican-led states of Indiana, Louisiana, South Dakota and Tennessee passed laws stating that “schools cannot ask students and/or collect data about gun ownership in the home.
  • The Republican-led states of Arkansas, Georgia and Florida. expanded “stand your ground” laws  allowing a person engaged in criminal activity to use deadly force in the home or a vehicle.

2016 Republican congressional lawmakers, Republican governors and Republican state legislators have all sold their souls to the leadership of the NRA.

  • The NRA leadership is opposed to virtually every form of gun regulation, including restrictions on owning assault weapons, retention of databases of gun purchases, background checks on purchasers at gun shows and changes in the registration of fire arms.
  • The NRA leadership influences who gets elected and what gun legislation gets blocked.
  • The NRA leadership actually drafts pro-gun legislation presented by and voted upon by Republican congressional lawmakers(???) and Republican state legislators.
  • In their 2013-2014 spending cycle, the NRA spent $16, 151, 028 against Democratic candidates at the state and congressional levels, and dished out $11,053,415 for Republican state and congressional candidates.
  • The total contributions to candidates from National Rifle Association PACs is 77 times larger than contributions from individuals.

Regarding the 2nd Amendment…

The 2nd Amendment is a part of the Bill of Rights which is comprised of the first ten amendments to the United States Constitution.  The Bill of Rights was ratified by the states on December 15, 1791”!.

The 2nd Amendment reads as follows: “Well-regulated MILITIA being necessary to the security of a free state, the right of the people to keep and bear Arms shall not be infringed.”

One final note…

56% of domestic terror is bred by right wing extremists - not Muslims - and not one of those extremists has been identified as a member of any well-regulated MILITIA!

WE have the power to save lives from deadly attacks with assault weapons!
Vote NRA-owned Republican congressional lawmakers, Republican governors and Republican  state legislators out of office in November!
