2017 New Year Resolutions! Bring it On!

UPDATE: Here’s another cause! Republican Senators think they have a ‘lock’ on votes for  Trump’s  race-baiting, xenophobic  Attorney General nominee, Jeff Sessions. Don’t let them do it! Here are organizations fighting for the cause. NAACP http://www.naacp.org/   Welcome to the Democracy Initiative Education Fund http://www.democracyinitiative.org/

Call Mitch McConnell at 202-224-2541 and call US Senators at https://commoncause.org/take-action/find-elected-officicals/ . Tell them to ditch Sessions!

Check out Sessions’ true colors at 12 Reasons Jeff Sessions Should Never Be Attorney General http://www.rightwingwatch.org/.../12-reasons-jeff-sessions-should-never-be-attorney-gener... and Senators Must Vote ‘No’ to Jeff Sessions as Attorney General http://www.huffingtonpost.com/.../the-debate-over-sessions-nomination-for-attorney-genera...

 Bring it on!

Barely ¼ (26%) of eligible voters put Trump in Office having loss to Hillary’s nearly 3 million popular votes,  and overall, many Democrats won more votes than Republicans at congressional and state elections but 'loss' because of the fix associated with  Republican gerrymandered election rigging made easier by low voter turnout Midterm Elections in 2010, 2014 and the 2016 General Election!

The good news is Democrats didn’t do as badly as Fact Free FOXifiers and other Right Wing  pundits would like you to believe in the 2016 General Election!

With high voter turnout, think how far we can go in the 2018 Midterms with no Electoral College!
So -

Bring it on!

Add these winning ideas to your New Year Resolutions list!

Bring back democracy by learning about and taking action against  Republican gerrymandering - Learn about Republican election rigging at Gerrymandering helped Republicans take control of Congress https://www.latimes.com/.../la-na-pol-trump-divides-congress-20161001-snap-s,   Republicans rigged the House through gerrymandering https://www.dailykox.com/.../-Republicans-rigged-the-House-through-gerryman...  and This is how the GOP rigged Congress: The secret plan that handcuffed https://www.salon/com/this_is_how_the_gop_rigged_congress_the_secret_plan...
.
Take action! Support the Common Cause Redistricting coalition at https://www.commoncause.org/issues/voting-and-elections/redistricting/

Take action! Be on the look out and be sure to attend and encourage others to attend any state legislative sessions involving redistricting and/or voting.  You can keep track of sessions and more at Find your Elected Official - Common Cause https://commoncause.org/take-action/find-elected-officicals/

Take action! Get out the vote for high voter turnout in the 2018 Midterms to get the gerrymandering Republicans out of office at the gubernatorial and state legislature levels from now.  Waiting until 2018 will be too late.

Get involved in important causes - If you are concerned about the Republican Congress’, Republican governors’ and Republican state legislators’ pledge to destroy Obamacare, Planned Parenthood, to hand-over Medicare, public education, veterans services, and the like to corporate welfare on the backs of the middle class and the poor, call or visit and get others to call or visit your congressional and state reps via the following links.

Find contact information for federal, state and local government officials at Contact Elected Official -USA.gov https://www.usa.gov/elected-officials

Find out how to contact your elected officials, bills they’ve introduced, committees they serve on and political contributions at Find your Elected Official - Common Cause https://commoncause.org/take-action/find-elected-officicals/

Find your state Legislator at Open States https://openstates.org/find_your_legislator/

Get involved with  The American Civil Liberties Union - ACLU  - Join forces with the ACLU at https://www.aclu.org/ The ACLU is a nationwide organization with more than 1 million activists and supporters that has been a guardian of liberty, working in courts, legislatures and communities to defend and preserve the individual rights and liberties that the Constitution and the laws of the United State guarantee everyone in this country.  Whether it relates to reinstating voting rights that the Republican Congress refuses to act upon; protecting the sovereign nation lands of Native Americans whose sacred burial grounds are being ruined by the militaristic take-over of big oil companies, or investigating the all too frequent deaths of unarmed African American youth and men at the hands of bad apples within the law enforcement community.

Get involved with protecting Planned Parenthood and Roe v Wade - Republican congressional reps, governors and state legislators have declared war on Planned Parenthood. Stand with Planned Parenthood and help support access to reproductive health care, cancer screenings, the prevention of sexually transmitted infections and hepatitis B and emergency contraception at https://www.plannedparenthood.org/

Also, let everybody in your social networks know the name and state represented by every Republican congressional rep who votes against Planned Parenthood via http://www.projectvotesmart.com

Get involved with protecting voting rights - The Republican Congress refuses to reinstate voting rights so that Republican governors and state legislators can, freely, institute voting suppression.  Fight for the right to vote by joining and supporting  the League of Women Voters at https://lwv.org/issues/protecting-voters; Common Cause - Protect the Vote at https://www.commoncause.org/issues/voting-and-elections/voter-protection/ , and/or Election Protection - You Have the Right to Vote at https://www.855ourvote.org/

Meet with your congressional representatives - Trump will be governing with virtually no checks and balances with Republican control of the House and Senate. You don’t need to buy a plane, train or bus ticket to visit your congressional rep.  Every rep has one or more offices in the state they represent and they go home on weekends, holidays or their frequent taxpayer-paid “breaks”.

Find out how to contact your congressional reps at OpenCongress https://www.opencongress.org/people/zipcidelookup

Tips on how to conduct your meeting as well as follow-up can be found at https://usgovinfo.about.com/od/thepoliticalsyster

Finally -

Smell the roses! - Think of three good things in your life each morning before you get out of bed and enjoy the ride!
