The Romney/Ryan Medicare Myth Factory: Obamacare(s) – They Don’t!

Romney's and Ryan's  latest, campaign strategy is to cover-up  the fact that their Health Care Plan will cost Medicare beneficiaries  an added "$6,400" of out-of-pocket expenses a year  and “increase the deficit by $210 billion over 10 years”. (politifact.com ), and they are (literally) banking on the hopes that their Right Wing agenda Super Pacs, cable news/radio networks, pundits, politicians and fake “think tanks” will help them pull the wool over our eyes.

An article by the Center for Medicare Advocacy, Inc.  entitled Medicare Facts & Fiction states “as pundits and politicians continue to discuss the deficit, misinformation and confusion about Medicare and the Affordable Care Act abound”.

An article by the Physicians for a National Health Program entitled “Right Wing “Think” Tanks and Health Policy  states: “As the movement for single payer expands, attacks on single payer in the media by the far right have increased…The Right Wing “Echo Chamber” masquerade as legitimate research institutions, most of these policy think tanks are little more that PR firms for those who want to obscure the facts about health care in America.”

Here are the myths versus non-partisan facts as presented in an article by the Center for Medicare Advocacy, Inc. entitled Medicare Facts & Fiction, and in an article by the  Alliance for Retired Americans  entitled Myth Busters: New Health Law & Other Myths:

ROMNEY / RYAN    MYTHS
NON-PARTISAN    FACTS
The Affordable Care Act cuts $700  Billion from Medicare
The Affordable Care Act does not cut Medicare for beneficiaries.

The Affordable Care Act does not address Medicare’s future problems

The Affordable Care Act actually extends the life of the Medicare trust fund by about a decade.

The Affordable Care Act is a “government takeover” of health care.

The Affordable Care Act is not a government takeover.  In fact, ACA will help people buy private insurance.

The Affordable Care Act will bust the budget and add to our nation’s deficit.

The Affordable Care Act lowers our nation’s deficit.

Medicare benefits will be cut along with payments to Medicare doctors.

The Affordable Care Act improves benefits in Medicare.

The Affordable Care Act will create “death panels” to make life-and-death decisions, encourage euthanasia, and ration care.
There are no “death panels’ in the Affordable Care Act. The payment board set up by ACA cannot cut benefits or make health care decisions for beneficiaries

Affordable Care Act will force millions to be dropped from their health insurance.

Americans will not be required to drop their current insurance.

Monthly Medicare Part B premiums are set to jump to $247 billion in 2014 under the Affordable Care Act.

The Affordable Care Act did not change the calculation of the Part B premium at all.

The New health law is bad for seniors

The new health law provides seniors under Medicare a free yearly medical checkup and free preventive screenings for diseases such as diabetes, heart disease and cancer.

Cuts to Medicare advantage plans will hurt seniors!

The new health law eliminates the wasteful overpayments to private Medicare Advantage (MA) plans.

The new health care law will bankrupt Medicare
According to the Medicare actuaries, the new health law extends the life of Medicare by 7 Years.

The new health law has increased Medicare premiums

The new health law has not  increased Medicare premiums and, in fact, in some cases, it has reduced  premiums."

WE need to put an end to the lies and half-truths.  Share the facts with family, friends, social networks and  those who are at or near Medicare age.  Lives and  peace of mind depend on it!
