The third time's a charm or is it?

So, Mitt just released his 2011 tax returns. Think this is the first time Romney’s been hounded by the tax release controversy -  NOT!

In 1994, when Romney, unsuccessfully, ran for the U.S. Senate against the late Ted Kennedy, he challenged Senator Kennedy to “disclose his state and federal taxes to  prove he had nothing to hide”. Mitt, also,   “agreed to release his own taxes once his opponents did the same,  but then backtracked on his end of the bargain.” (msnbc.msn.com/ the rachel-maddow-show)

In 2002 when he was running for Governor of Massachusetts, his opponent, Shannon O’Brien challenged him for refusing to  release his taxes. Romney got away with it by claiming “I value my privacy” and by attacking O’Brien  for not releasing her husband’s(?)  returns  notwithstanding the fact that O’Brien released her tax returns every year since 1998. It’s  2012, and Romney is, once again, refusing to release multiple years of tax returns which is pretty ironic. Romney's father released "twelve years" of tax returns when he ran for president in 1968, a tradition that every other presidential candidate, except Romney, has honored. According to an article at huffingtonpost.com, “Mitt Romney has been either a candidate for office or a public official for much of the last 8 years.  In refusing to release the tax returns that could answer many of the outstanding questions about his relationship with Bain Capital and his personal tax behavior, Mr. Romney attempts to shake the etch-a-sketch and erase that history.”

Is the third time a charm? An article in thinkprogress.org answers the question best. “If Mitt Romney has “nothing to hide,” then he should immediately release his tax returns so middle class Americans can find out whether or not millionaire Mitt is using tax loopholes to pay a lower tax rate than they are”!
