Dr. Martin Luther
King Jr. once said…
“Life’s most persistent
and urgent question is: “What are you
doing for others?” (mlkday.gov)
What better way to answer Dr. King’s question then by responding to President Obama’s call to get
involved in his Inauguration activities by
celebrating Martin Luther King Day in a National
Day of Service on January 19, 2013!
There are many ways you can participate in the National Day
of Service…
- You can participate in AmeriCorps programs providing service to Hurricane Sandy victims, veterans and military families, bringing low income individuals and communities out of poverty, meeting critical community needs in education, public safety, health and the environment.
- You can paint homeless shelters and/or cook meals for hungry families.
- You can serve veterans and
military families at serve.gov
- You can connect with the WriteOn! School Supply Drive
- You can connect with the Backpacks with Health Snacks for Kids project.
- You can honor the victims of 9/11 by connecting with the My Good Deed movement built on people remembering through positive action
- You can connect with the HandsOn Network which mobilizes volunteers to take action that changes the world.
- Connect to the Volunteer Connection’s National Service Days Calendar covering 2013-1015 celebrations of the Martin Luther King Jr. National Day of Service, Global Youth Service Days, National Volunteer Week, Join Hands Day, Make a Difference Day, National Family Volunteer Day, and the 9/11 National Day of Service and Remembrance.
- Connect with organizations in your state and/or at a college campus near you. We found many National Day of Service activities sponsored at state and college campus web sites.

the question: What are you doing
for others? below:
