The Conference of Mayors
has been fighting to protect us from sequestration from as early as September,
2012. They even went so far as to submit
a bi-partisan letter to Congress begging them to avoid arbitrary sequestration
cuts but the letter fell on deaf ears. (usmayors.org)
A Bloomberg News Poll reports that 54% percent of Americans support
delaying the sequestration. (bloomberg.com/news)
The Bipartisan Policy Center reports that sequestration cuts “would not do much to address the government’s long term debt” (huffingtonpost.com)
Even though Tea Partied Congressional members are trying to
convince us that the budget deficit is growing, an actual report presented by their own Congressional Budget Office reports that the deficit is shrinking!

to us?
- Sequestration will “cause severe harm” to programs that benefit the middle-class,
- Sequestration will “cause severe harm” to programs that benefit seniors
- Sequestration will “cause severe harm” to programs that benefit children
- The number of FBI, Customs, Border Patrol Agents, correctional officers and federal prosecutors will be slashed.
- The Federal Aviation Administration’s ability to oversee and manage the Nation’s airspace and air traffic control will be reduced.
- The National Institutes of Health will have to halt or curtail needed research into cancer and childhood disease.
- The Federal Emergency Management Agency’s ability to respond to incidents of terrorism and other catastrophic events will be undermined.
- Sequestration will cut unemployment benefits.
- Sequestration will cut homelessness programs.
- Sequestration will result in a reduction in readiness of many non-deployed military units, cause cutbacks in equipment repairs and reductions in base services for military families.
