25 Ways to Lend a Helping Hand for Thanksgiving!



Spinning the spins aside, here are some ideas to make Thanksgiving 'thankful' for others!
 
1.      Practice random acts of kindness.
2.      Donate to a food or coat drive.
3.       Deliver a meal to those who cannot join family or friends.
4.       Run a Turkey Trot to benefit a local charity.
5.       Invite a neighbor and/or coworker for a holiday meal.
6.       Deliver cookies to first responders at a fire station and/or police department.
7.       Visit a hospice to hold a hand.
8.       Visit a retirement home to read a book or listen to life stories.
9.      Support our troops with care packages, e-greetings, e-cards, and visit a Veterans Center, and transport patients to appointments.
10.   Collect food, manage inventory and distribute food at a Food Bank.
11.   Lend a hand at the offices of environmental groups.
12.   Volunteer at your local Humane Society – walk dogs, socialize cats, help with adoptions, keep facilities clean, work with the public.
13.   Help a local Special Olympics chapter with sports training, fundraising, administrative help.
14.   Donate blood at a Blood Bank.
15.   Locate a local disaster relief organization and help out.
16.   Become a literacy volunteer for children and/or adults.
17.   Organize a recognition program for volunteers who support community organizations.
18.   Plan an Ethnic Awareness Day to promote tolerance and understanding of differences.
19.   Bring toys to a children’s ward at a hospital.
20.   Read aloud to a person who is visually impaired.
21.   Help serve food at a Homeless Shelter.
22.   Collect old magazines and donate them to day care centers.
23.   Adopt a ‘grandfriend’.
24.   Donate old eye glasses to an organization or place that recycles them for the needy.
25.   Hold a ‘Work Off the Holiday Calories’ event the week after Thanksgiving – help a neighbor clean or repair their home, clean a park, build a bookshelf, walk a disabled or senior citizen’s dog.
