The GOP Congress scrambled as quiet as a mouse.

The Shut Down, bills for voting rights, increased minimum wage, and assault weapon controls tucked in ‘No’ votes with care

In hopes that by the time Dems take over, they will just disappear.

Corporate lobbyists and Wall Street investors tossing and turning in their beds

While visions of the FOXified Con-In-Chief danced in their heads.

Trump’s fact-free brain cells caroling tweet-filled raps

Had just settled down for a Putin-Love-Fest - Oh snap!

When out on the White House lawn there arose such a clatter

Blue Wavers climbed out of bunkers to see what was the matter

Away to Trump’s Twitter feed they flew like a flash

To see the latest chaos FOX ‘Trumped’ up - Alas!

The moon on the breast of the new fallen snow

Gave a luster of limbo to government workers, U.S. allies and immigrants below

When what to their wondering eyes did appear

But a Checks & Balances House - the first in two years!

2018 Blue Wavers voted lively and quick

No blinking, no shrinking -

Fed up with Trump's and the GOP's dirty tricks!

Unveiling their first bill - ‘HR 1’ by name

Dem House reps whistled and shouted bill details without shame:

Campaign finance reform powered by small donors!
Ethics reform - no more hidden ‘tax return’ disclosures!
Restoring voting rights from Republican suppression!
Sweeping anti-corruption measures - How refreshing!

To the top of finally investigating Russian election transgression!
House Dems anxiously awaiting their first session!

As leaves that before the wild hurricane fly,

When they meet with an obstacle, mount to the sky.

So, up to media networks Trump’s Republican surrogates flew

With a fact-free bag of misinformation, disinformation, and lies -

What else is new?

And then in a twinkling, WE heard on the roof

The prancing and pawing of each Trash Obama, Hillary, Immigrants spoof.

As WE drew in our heads and turned around

The Trump/Pence/Federalist GOP Senate pounced with a bound.

Dressed all in Heritage Foundation-manufactured fur from head to foot,

Preaching anti-voting, women’s, workers’ rights judges tarnished with ashes and soot.

A bundle of tax cuts for the rich tucked under their hats.

They all looked like peddlers just opening their packs.

 

Their deceptions – how they twinkled!

Confirming and ignoring the "best" scandal-ridden Cabinet, so leery!

Lowering ethical standards just to make Trump cheery!

 

Their droll little mouths were drawn down row by row,

And their Drain the swamp slogan was as empty as snow.

The stump of Trump’s Government Shut Down stuck in their teeth

Predatory lender bills against consumers encircled their heads like a wreath.

They had broad, fake smiles and bloated destroy the environment for ‘corporate welfare’  bellies

That shook when they deceived, like a bowl full of jelly.

And I laughed when I saw them, in spite of myself;

A wink of their eyes and a TWIST of their heads!

 

The Exorcist sequel! Hide! Under the sled!

 

Dems rolled up their sleeves, and went straight to work

Unraveling the GOP’s Party Over Democracy Agenda can’t be smirched.

And laying their finger aside their nose

And giving a nod, to the Capital they rose!

 

Pelosi sprang to her sleigh – to her team gave a whistle.

And away they all flew like the down of a thistle.

But I heard her exclaim, ere she drove out of sight –
