US Senators McCain, Graham and their newly anointed spinners, Senators Kelly Ayotte (NH) and Susan Collins (Maine), are at it
again. This time they’re leading the Tea
Partied Republican Congressional Rebellion against US Ambassador to the
UN, Susan Rice. McCain and Graham called Ms. Rice “incompetent”, “not
smart” and they “vowed to block UN Ambassador Susan Rice for a
potential cabinet position after her remarks on the deadly Benghazi attack”. (The
Last Word with Lawrence O’Donnell)
Before we get to the meat of
this post, I want to ask you a question. Why do McCain and Graham always lead a Tea Partied Rebellion
against any person of color put forth for any form of Congressional review?
Supreme
Court Justice Sotomayor was the “most
qualified nominee for Supreme Court Justice in history”, but that didn’t
stop McCain and Graham from leading the Tea
Partied Republicans’ unanimous vote against her nomination. McCain and Graham couldn’t muster enough
votes against Eric Holder’s Attorney General nomination. So, they got Tea Partied Republicans to delay his confirmation
vote. Then got the Darrel Issa's Fabrication Committee to drag Holder over the coals
for over a year with a trumped up (no pun intended - wink, wink) conspiracy
charge that they couldn’t even prove
with 30 of their own witnesses! The only thing Holder was “guilty”(?!?!)
of was having brains and fighting for Blacks, Hispanics, the
elderly, the poor, and college students to have the right to vote under Tea Partied Republican voter suppression
laws.
Now let’s get to McCain, Graham, and Company's attack on Ambassador Rice. McCain, Graham and Company are taking issue with
Rice’s statements five days after the attack on the US diplomatic mission in
Benghazi. So, they concocted a spin on Ms.
Rice’s actual statements attributing “the incident to the outrage in the Arab
world over an anti-Muslim video produced in the US, not terrorism” (csmonitor, com)
First of all, McCain Graham and Company knew full well that Rice was just repeating documented "CIA-provided talking points" in her statements to the media. If McCain, Graham and Company knew what they were spinning about, wouldn’t they be just as concerned(?!?!?) about the sources from which Rice got her talking points? The truth of the matter is that in a volatile situation such as that which took place in Benghazi at the same time numerous protests were taking place within numerous Middle Eastern sectors in response to the vile video, information is very fluid and only becomes clearer as more and more information is found out.
Secondly, McCain and
Graham’s attacks on Ms. Rice as being “incompetent” and “not smart” were mean spirited and absurd. According
to her US Department of State biography,
from 2002-2009, she was a Senior Fellow
at the Brookings Institution where she focused on US foreign policy,
transnational security threats, weak states, global poverty and development.
From 1997- 2001, Ambassador Rice was the US Assistant Secretary of State for African
Affairs. In that position, she formulated an implemented overall US policy for 48 countries of Sub-Saharan Africa, including
political, economic, security and humanitarian issues. As Assistant Secretary,
she oversaw the management of 43 US Embassies and over 5,000 US and Foreign Service national
employees. In 2000, Ambassador Rice was co-recipient of the White House’s
2000 Samuel Nelson Drew
Memorial Award for
distinguished contributions to the formation of peaceful, cooperative
relationships between states. From 1995-1997, ambassador Rice served as Special
Assistant to President William J. Clinton and Senior Director for African
Affairs at the National Security Council at the White House. Prior to this
position, she served as the Director for International Organizations and
Peacekeeping on the National Security Council staff from 1993 until 1995.
Finally, it would be interesting to find out why Republican Congress members are not mentioning that they cut diplomatic corps funding, and why McCain, Graham and Company as well as other Tea
Partied Republican politicians, pundits and FOXifiers are so defensive
and offensive about minimizing and not demonstrating their often preached "moral values"?!?!? regarding the
vile video and denouncing Rice!
Fried Rice not Nice!
GOTTA VOTE
