Just came across an announcement that May is Military Appreciation Month.
Spinning the spins aside for a moment, it’s never too late to show
appreciation towards members of our military and their families.
Here are some ideas:
- If you happen to come across someone in the military (active, guard, reserve or retired), say a simple Thank you!
- Prepare and send care packages to deployed military personnel. (See links below.)
- Visit a veterans hospital.
- Send notes and cards to active duty military personnel and hospitalized veterans.
- Invite a military member as your guest for a civic organization meeting or luncheon.
- Use your social networks to give special recognition to individuals you may know who are in the military.
- Contribute to military support organizations such as the USO, Operation Gratitude, Wounded Warriors and Taps. (See links below.)
Don’t forget to support military
families, particularly those that have a spouse, son or daughter who is currently deployed:
- Give a hug.
- Be a good listener.
- Offer to babysit.
- Drop off a meal.
- Offer to pick up a child from school one afternoon.
Be sure to visit Military Appreciation Month- Resources and
links below. It contains excellent links covering
volunteer ideas; sources for employment assistance, business-based military discounts to entertainment
and recreation activities, specifically, tailored towards supporting military personnel
and their families.
